I recently had the chance to get the latest MacBookPro 13 for my new work at Criteo. If you follow me and remember, this is not the first time I want to use Debian on a new MacBookPro version. Overview History repeats itself and as you can think, some things are not working out of the box on Debian Jessie. Here are the issues I encountered and how i could fix some of them:

You may upgrade your Mac OS X version to Yosemite (10.10) and saw you dual boot with Linux not working anymore :-(. That’s because Apple made changes and Refind is not yet ready for it. So here is the solution to get your dual boot half back. It won’t fully work as expected, but you’ll be able to boot to Linux with Refind and Mac OS X with the alt key.

Big resolution with small screens is more and more common and we’re facing a problem on fonts visualization as the readability is not optimal. We have a lot of non adapted fonts for retina display, even if most of them are not so bad. The solution to resolve that problem is to install additional fonts to replace the default one. And one of the best one I’ve seen is Infinality fonts !

I think this will be the last post for the Debian installation on MacBook Pro 13’ late 2013. To resume, here are the previous posts : http://blog.deimos.fr/2013/10/27/debian-on-the-last-macbook-pro-13/ http://blog.deimos.fr/2013/11/10/update-1-debian-on-the-111-model-macbook-pro-13/ The majority of the bugs will be resolve in the Linux Kernel 3.13. I’ve tested the rc2, but it’s too much unstable for the moment and I need to wait. Arch wiki gives a lot of informations to make (most of) everything working :

So this is my first update to get a full working MacBook Pro under Debian. For now, as already talked in a last post, I’m trying to make every things working. The remaining nonworking things/problems were and the resolutions I’ve found : The iSight Camera : still not working (didn’t had time to search solution neither) The Speaker : should work with the latest kernel and patch (RedHat bugzilla) but didn’t have the time to test it yet (3.

I tested to install Debian as I love it more than Mac OS X for work on my new MacBook Pro 13 retina. Most of the hardware works out of the box on a Debian Jessie (because of the kernel version > 3.8) but is not really optimal. That’s why I’m going to explain how I did to make it better. First of all, you need an EFI manager. I discovered that Refit is not maintained anymore and let place to rEFInd instead.

Yes I did it ! I finally switched from my fantastic Lenovo to the latest MacBook Pro 13. Some of you won’t understand why I did it, but in fact you’ll see this is an evidence. What was the problem with the Lenovo ? Just the weight ! I’m usually transporting it from work to home and vice versa. I now have a backache and it couldn’t continue like that. Hopefully eNovance is a comprehensive company and allowed me to switch to another laptop of my choice.
