How to use old Debian repository for unmaintained Debian versions

Installing old Debian to prepare a migration is quite good when repositories are still available. But for old unmaintained versions of Debian, we need to change some things. Hopefully Debian still keep all the old versions in an archive repository that is accessible by changing the default url. Even if during install it fails, you can set it up afterward. I tested some months ago TinyTiny RSS but it wasn’t exactly what I expected from an RSS reader. That’s why, when Google announced their Reader’s end, I wanted to quickly find a reader that can fit my needs and have enough time to test it. Fever answered most of them, instead of the mobile client. When I was on iPhone Reeder was nearly perfect, but not really Android with Meltdown.

I’m glad and proud to start working at eNovance. Today is my first day and I’ve been hired as a technical leader. I know there are some people here with a high technical level. I hope I’ll learn high level stuff and help eNovance to grow up with all my years of experience. I think that most of my future topics will be related to my favorites subjects as this is what I was searching for : automation, high availability, devops and bests practices in production.

Vim : use Vundle to install your plugins

I recently talked to a colleague about Vim. As he’s a Vim poweruser (VimNinja in my articles comments), he has a lot of interesting tips. He also talked to me about a super plugins manager that can handle any plugins stored locally, on github or vim scripts. This manager is a vim plugin as well, called Vundle. I’ve adapted my Vim configuration with it. So now on my Git, I simply have my vimrc and the Vundle plugin.

I’m using Slim for a few months and I’m very happy with it. It’s simple, do what does it have to do and it’s light. But I wanted to customize it to give a look similar to my Awesome theme. That’s why I’ve took Gimp and modified a theme I liked. You can see the result :-) You can find my configuration here and modify it if you want :-)

Mediawiki : install and upgrade with Git

For several years, I manually managed my MediaWiki instance manually and always upgraded manually, getting diffs, patching files etc… Now it’s over, this method is simply not adapted to my needs. Now, as MediaWiki use git, I decided to maintain my instance with the git repository and extensions as well. I’ve wrote a documentation on that : Installation method Core + extensions Upgrade core + extensions I hope this will help some of you that still manage it by the old way.

I saw a little bit late that MediaWiki 1.21 was out. After a quick migration I discovered errors with my plugins because of deprecated and removed functions in this new version. I’ve updated them to recover the compatibility on MediaWiki with the latest version.
