How to use old Debian repository for unmaintained Debian versions

Installing old Debian to prepare a migration is quite good when repositories are still available. But for old unmaintained versions of Debian, we need to change some things. Hopefully Debian still keep all the old versions in an archive repository that is accessible by changing the default url. Even if during install it fails, you can set it up afterward. Vim : use Vundle to install your plugins

I recently talked to a colleague about Vim. As he’s a Vim poweruser (VimNinja in my articles comments), he has a lot of interesting tips. He also talked to me about a super plugins manager that can handle any plugins stored locally, on github or vim scripts. This manager is a vim plugin as well, called Vundle. I’ve adapted my Vim configuration with it. So now on my Git, I simply have my vimrc and the Vundle plugin.

I’m using Slim for a few months and I’m very happy with it. It’s simple, do what does it have to do and it’s light. But I wanted to customize it to give a look similar to my Awesome theme. That’s why I’ve took Gimp and modified a theme I liked. You can see the result :-) You can find my configuration here and modify it if you want :-)

MariaDB/MySQL slides for HA and performances tuning

I recently gave a training on MariaDB/MySQL regarding performances tuning and High Availability. You can find here the slides I’ve made for it (french). Selfoss : An elegant RSS reader

Selfoss is a self-hosted RSS reader solution. It could be compared to Tiny Tiny RSS or Feedly. I liked to test that nice solution. But I’m still staying with Fever, as there is no Android version working with Selfoss (only an old one exist, but doesn’t work) and the web interface is a little bit slow (compared to Fever). I hope this will be better in a short term as this is the most elegant Open Source version I’ve tested for now.

Firefox Sync : build your own sync server

I’m very happy of Mozilla Sync service and trust more in Mozilla foundation than Google for my datas. Anyway there is a thing that I don’t like : sharing my passwords into the cloud ! That’s why I decided to create my own Sync Server. I want to thanks Mozilla for their work, it works like a charm :-). So now I don’t use Mozilla server anymore, but my own. Switch audio output to another USB device

I recently talked about my new keyboard and the output sound directly on the keyboard. That’s a great thing, but depending on your distribution and the desktop you’ve installed, it may not work out of the box. That’s why I’ve written a documentation to make it work. In addition, I’ve modified my awesome configuration to get special music keys to work like a charm :-)
